Writing With Your Eyes and how to
write and publish a guest book review in the El Paso Times.
Born in Valentine, Texas, Ramon
Renteria is a retired El Paso Times reporter and columnist. He attended Sul
Ross University in Alpine, Texas, and the University of Texas at El Paso and
worked for 44 years in print journalism in Southern California, New Mexico and
Texas. Over the course of his career, he
covered crime news, education, the courts, city politics, entertainment, U.S. /
Mexico border issues, plus books and authors.
His feature story “Separate and Unequal: the story of Kelli, Veronica
and school finance” about the inequities in Texas public school financing
received a 1989 Texas Headliner Award and a 1990 Martinez-Marguez award for
journalistic excellence. He also
received the 1980 Texas Headliner Spot News of the Year Award and a 1995 Texas
Headliner Spot News Award for feature writing.
He served as the content editor
of the newspaper’s Sunday book page for more than 10 years and continues to
organize the page on a free lance basis.
